Acabei de ouvir em directo na Rádio Catalunya Musica a última récita da ópera Il Pirata de Vincenzo Bellini no Gran Teatro del Liceu de Barcelona.
Esta ópera, é pouco apresentada nos teatros de ópera actualmente, uma vez que representa um "tour de force" para o soprano, no papel de Imogene, e para o tenor no papel de Gualtiero. No passado destacam-se as interpretações de Callas e de Caballé (que dizia que cantar Imogene é mais difícil que cantar Norma).
Para estas récitas, em versão concerto, o Teatro del Liceu não poderia ter escolhido melhor dupla de cantores: o soprano italiano Mariella Devia e o tenor americano Gregory Kunde.
Mariella Devia, aos 64 anos, interpreta magistralmente a partitura. Não há uma falha na linha melódica, o legatto é irrepreensível e a beleza tonal notável. Até consegue umas notas graves de peito com um volume apreciável, coisa que não é comum na cantora.
Gregory Kunde enfrenta com bravura a difícil partitura para tenor. Bellini escreveu o papel de Gualtiero para o tenor Giovanni Rubini e, por isso, numa tessitura muito aguda. Kunde, que já não é novo, foi extraordinário em todos os registos e ainda nos brindou com alguns agudos que não estão na partitura. Pessoalmente gosto muito da voz do tenor que já tive oportunidade de ouvir em Barcelona na ópera Anna Bolena.
O resto do elenco esteve bem, nomeadamente o barítono Vladimir Stoyanov.

I just heard live on Catalunya Radio Music he last performance of the opera Il Pirata by Vincenzo Bellini at Gran Teatro del Liceu in Barcelona.
This opera is not presented in much these days, since it's a "tour de force" for the soprano, in the role of Imogene, and for the tenor in the role of Gualtiero. In the past the interpretations of Callas and Caballé (that said Imogene singing is harder to sing Norma) are references.
For these performances, in concert version, the Teatro del Liceu could not have chosen a better pair of singers: italian soprano Mariella Devia and american tenor Gregory Kunde.
Mariella Devia, at 64, interprets the score masterfully. There is not a flaw in the melodic line, the legatto is impeccable and the voice is beautiful. Even in the lower register, the singer managed quite well some chest notes.
Gregory Kunde bravely faces the difficult score of the tenor. Bellini wrote the role of Gualtiero for the tenor Giovanni Rubini and therefore a very high tessiture. Kunde, in his fifties was extraordinary in all registers and even offered us some highs that are not in the score. Personally I love the tenor's voice who had an opportunity to listen in Barcelona at the opera Anna Bolena.
The rest of the cast was good, baritone Vladimir Stoyanov in particular.
